Background

Guus Grimbergen obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where he gained an interest for MR physics. During his Master, he conducted an intership on multi-slice convolutional neural networks for medical image segmentation at Umeå University in northern Sweden. He performed his graduation internship in the Computational Imaging group at the UMC Utrecht, where he joined the MR-STAT project and performed research on extending MR-STAT beyond the brain.

After graduating in 2020, he continued as a PhD student at the radiotherapy department of the UMC Utrecht. He is currently working on MR-guided radiotherapy for pancreatic cancer, under the supervision of Gert Meijer, Martijn Intven and Bas Raaymakers. During his PhD, he focuses on developing and implementing new dose delivery and imaging strategies for pancreatic SBRT with the MR-Linac, to improve target coverage and gastro-intestinal structure sparing.
